While millions of us enjoy flying every year there is a noisy downside for the people who live or work near to airports.
Charitable support
Charity of the year
BAA Heathrow staff have chosen Age Concern and Help the Aged to be its Charity of the Year for 2009. The campaign, called ‘Connecting Communities’, aims to raise £200,000 for Age Concern and Help the Aged through staff fund-raising events, passenger collections and promotions. The money raised will go towards vital local community programmes such as their volunteer befriending services in the Hounslow area.
Age Concern and Help the Aged were selected as Heathrow’s charity of the year by BAA Heathrow’s 5,000 staff. The initiative is a key part of BAA’s community relations programme.
The partnership will run for the whole of 2009. BAA Heathrow’s first Charity of the Year was Marie Curie Cancer Care in 2008, when staff and passengers more than doubled the original target of £100,000, raising £240,000.

Community and Environment Awards
The Heathrow Community & Environment Awards are a source of support for schools, voluntary organisations, community groups and local authorities.
There are two types of schemes available: 1) The Small Grants Scheme which awards grants of up to £2,500 six times per year and 2) The Large Grants Scheme which awards grants of over £2,500 and up to £50,000 up to three times a year.
Under each scheme, grants will be made to exciting local community projects focusing on five themes: ‘reduce, re-use, recycle’; ‘climate change and energy’; ‘protecting and enhancing our environment’; ‘bringing communities together’ and ‘developing skills’.
